Ambition North Wales, the statutory body representing the six local authorities of the region, is establishing a new business advisory board and is now inviting applications from private sector leaders to join. The board aims to provide independent advice, constructive challenge, and strategic guidance to help shape the region's economic future.
Role of the Advisory Board
The newly formed board will represent businesses and employers across North Wales, offering insights and expertise to support Ambition North Wales in its mission. The body is overseeing the North Wales Growth Deal, which seeks to secure £1 billion in investment for the region's economy. Of this, £240 million has already been committed by the Welsh and UK governments, with the remainder expected to come from leveraged funding sources, including the private sector.
Key Responsibilities
Ambition North Wales holds statutory responsibilities that include delivering a regional strategic transport plan, a strategic development plan, and promoting regional economic well-being. Additionally, it oversees the Flintshire and Wrexham Investment Zone, which together represent £400 million in government investment. These programs aim to unlock up to £2 billion in total investment and create over 10,000 jobs in the next decade.
Board Leadership
The business advisory board will be chaired by Dave Penrith, with Nick Bennett serving as vice-chair. Both currently act as non-executive advisors to Ambition North Wales, bringing extensive experience in capital projects, governance, engineering, digital transformation, and economic development.
Mr. Penrith commented: "The business advisory board will play a vital role in driving change and ensuring North Wales reaches its full economic potential for its businesses and people. This is a rare opportunity to play a defining role in shaping the region's future and making a lasting impact."
Mr. Bennett added: "It's exciting to bring this new board together at such a pivotal time, where it can act as a real catalyst for long-term economic success. We are looking for private sector leaders with strong networks, sound judgment, and a passion for supporting transformative investment across North Wales."
Volunteer Positions
The new board member roles are unpaid volunteer positions, requiring a commitment to bi-monthly meetings, along with active engagement with stakeholders and partners. Applications are now open for interested private sector leaders.
