Admiral Posts Record Profit, Staff Get £1,800 Shares

Cardiff-headquartered financial services group Admiral has unveiled a remarkable 16% increase in pre-tax profit, reaching £957.9 million for the 2025 financial year. This record-breaking performance has prompted the company to reward its workforce generously, with over 13,000 employees set to receive free share awards valued at up to £1,800 each under its employee share scheme.

Strong Financial Results Amid Market Challenges

Despite a slight 1% dip in group turnover to £5.9 billion, Admiral described its core business outcomes as "excellent," with profits surpassing £1 billion for the first time. The company noted that the UK car insurance market remained softer than anticipated, but a focused strategy drove significant gains. Admiral's car insurance operations in Europe performed robustly, with strong growth and profitability in France and a rapid recovery noted in Italy.

Diversification and Growth Across Business Lines

Admiral Money, the group's loans division, reported a 24% rise in gross loan balances to £1.46 billion, contributing £26 million to overall group profit—double the amount from 2024. The company, which also offers pet and home insurance and operates in Spain, continues to diversify its portfolio. Recent strategic moves include the acquisition of London-based digital fleet insurer Flock in an £80 million deal and the integration of More Than, enhancing its product range.

Leadership and Future Outlook

Chief Executive Milena Mondini de Focatiis highlighted 2025 as an exceptional year, attributing success to the strength of Admiral's business model and disciplined execution. She emphasized investments in digital journeys, app functionality, and artificial intelligence, including the establishment of a GenAI Centre of Excellence. Looking ahead, the focus will be on compounding strengths in data, technology, and operational excellence to drive efficiency and customer retention.

Admiral enters its next strategic phase from a position of strength, with a culture and people-centric approach remaining central. The company employs more than 7,000 staff in South Wales alone, underscoring its significant regional impact. As part of leadership transitions, Group CFO Geraint Jones will retire this summer, with Rachel Lewis set to take over on July 1, bringing extensive business knowledge and a proven track record to the role.
