Popular Hairdryer Recalled Over Serious Fire Hazard
The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has issued a critical recall for a widely used hairdryer model due to a significant fire risk. The affected product is the Cloud Nine XDM 3600 Travel Dryer, which may overheat during normal use, potentially leading to ignition and fire.
Specific Details of the Recalled Product
The recall, officially announced on March 2, targets hairdryers with specific barcodes: 5056593901724 and 5056593901816. Additionally, batch codes UK-DRYER-BLCK-GWP-V1 and UK-DRYER-BLCK-GWP-V2 have been identified as hazardous. The device is described as a black travel hairdryer with a foldable handle, available in black and gold or rose gold finishes.
This product was distributed exclusively as a complimentary gift with purchases of eligible Cloud Nine items, meaning it was not sold separately. The OPSS has confirmed that the hairdryer fails to meet the safety standards outlined in the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016, specifically due to its tendency to overheat.
Immediate Actions Required for Consumers
Authorities are urging all customers who own this hairdryer to stop using it immediately to prevent any potential fire incidents. The official hazard warning states that overheating could cause the product to ignite, posing a direct risk to users' safety.
Cloud Nine has proactively initiated the recall, withdrawing the product from the market and contacting end users. Consumers are advised to return the hairdryer to Cloud Nine to receive a voucher as compensation. For those unable to return it in person, safe disposal is recommended, provided proof of purchase for the original Cloud Nine product is retained.
Company Response and Reassurances
Cloud Nine has emphasized that no other products in their lineup are affected by this recall, aiming to reassure customers about the safety of their other items. The company's swift action in coordinating with the OPSS highlights their commitment to consumer protection and regulatory compliance.
This recall serves as a reminder for all consumers to regularly check product safety notices and adhere to recall instructions to ensure household safety. The OPSS continues to monitor the situation and advises staying updated through official channels for any further developments.
