West Brom's James Morrison on Toby Collyer Interest and Transfer Plans

West Bromwich Albion first-team coach James Morrison has spoken about the club's reported interest in Manchester United midfielder Toby Collyer, as the Baggies head into the final weeks of the January transfer window. Morrison also made a frank admission about the club's ability to do business before the deadline.

Interest in Manchester United's Toby Collyer

Reports have linked West Brom with a move for 19-year-old Toby Collyer, who has been on the fringes of the Manchester United first team under manager Ruben Amorim. Collyer, a central midfielder, has made two senior appearances for the Red Devils this season, both in the Europa League.

When asked about the speculation, Morrison confirmed that the club is aware of the player but stopped short of confirming a formal bid. "We know about Toby, he's a talented young player," Morrison said. "But there are a lot of names that get thrown around at this time of year."

The former Scotland international, who made over 300 appearances for West Brom, added that the club's recruitment team is working hard to identify targets. "The recruitment lads are doing a great job, but it's not always straightforward," he said.

Transfer Window Admission

Morrison also made a candid admission about the club's financial constraints in the current window. "We're not in a position where we can just go out and spend big money," he said. "We have to be clever and look at loans, free transfers, and maybe some younger players who can develop."

West Brom, currently competing in the Championship, have been linked with several players as they look to strengthen their squad for the second half of the season. The club has already brought in one new signing this month, but Morrison indicated that further additions are not guaranteed.

"We'd love to bring in two or three more players, but it's not just about what we want," he said. "It's about what's available and what we can afford. The manager and the recruitment team are working around the clock."

Impact on the Squad

Morrison's comments come as West Brom look to push for a playoff spot in the Championship. The Baggies are currently sitting in the top half of the table, and Morrison believes that any new additions would need to improve the squad. "We've got a good group here, but we always want to improve," he said. "If we can add quality, we will."

The club's next fixture is a crucial league match against a direct rival, and Morrison stressed the importance of focus. "The transfer window is a distraction, but the lads are focused on the pitch," he said. "We can't control what happens off it, but we can control how we perform."

West Brom fans will be hoping that the club can secure the signing of Toby Collyer or another midfielder before the January transfer window closes at the end of the month.
