A cherished historic Grade II listed pub in a Birmingham neighbourhood has been sold as part of a major portfolio deal, securing its future as a community hub.
A New Chapter for a Local Landmark
The Red Lion on Station Road in Erdington is now under new ownership. The UK's leading community pub group, Admiral Taverns, has reached an agreement to purchase the leased and tenanted division from the previous owners, RedCat Hospitality.
This significant business move, which was finalised and reported on 25th November 2025, will see a total of 21 pubs transfer to Admiral Taverns' control, with the iconic Red Lion being a notable inclusion.
Preserving History and Community Spirit
The Red Lion is no ordinary pub. Dating back to 1899, it is a traditional venue beloved for its ornate, historic tiled bar and strong community feel. Its Grade II listed status underscores its architectural and cultural importance to the Erdington area.
Chris Jowsey, the Chief Executive Officer of Admiral Taverns, expressed his enthusiasm for the acquisition. He stated: "We are passionate about championing great community pubs and are delighted to welcome our new licensees and colleagues into the Admiral family."
Strategic Growth for the Pub Group
Jowsey further elaborated on the strategic importance of the deal, noting that the high-quality portfolio complements their existing estate. He emphasised that this acquisition marks a step forward in the company's strategy to expand its nationwide footprint and cement its position as the UK's leading community pub group.
"We look forward to supporting these pubs and enabling them to thrive at the heart of their local communities, up and down the country," Jowsey added, signalling a commitment to nurturing the unique character of establishments like The Red Lion.
This change in ownership promises a stable future for the historic pub, ensuring it continues to serve as a vital social centre for the people of Erdington for years to come.
