Midland Sports Bar Saved by Pub Landlord, But Staff Face Uncertainty
A Midland sports bar that announced its closure earlier this month has been rescued by a local pub landlord, offering a glimmer of hope for the venue's future. Tamworth Snooker, Pool and Darts, located on Victoria Road in Tamworth town centre, is set to reopen under new ownership in May, following an emotional farewell from staff who vowed to cherish the memories.
New Owner Steps In with 'See You Soon' Message
Andrew Russell, the landlord at the Fox Inn in Coton Green, Tamworth, has confirmed he will be taking over the business. In a social media post, Mr Russell expressed his excitement about extending his business portfolio, stating, "Exciting news – I’ll be taking over the business. I currently run the Fox Inn in Tamworth and looking to extend our business portfolio."
He outlined plans for renovations before the reopening, aiming to start trading at the beginning of May. Mr Russell acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding the transition, saying, "I'm sure there will be lots of questions, and while we may not have all the answers just yet, we’ll share updates as soon as we can."
Staff Transition and Future Opportunities
Despite the venue being saved, not all current staff will be retained as part of the new ownership. Mr Russell explained, "As this is a new business, unfortunately we won’t be able to transfer all staff across." However, he encouraged interested individuals to reach out for consideration, noting that the team will be expanded in line with future plans.
He also thanked Kye and the extended team at Tamworth Snooker, Pool and Darts for their support, emphasizing his appreciation for their efforts during this period of change.
Assurances for Customers and Members
For customers holding memberships, privilege cards, bookings, or vouchers, Mr Russell provided reassurance that details are being gathered to facilitate a smooth transfer. He stated, "Please rest assured we’re working hard to gather the details needed so these can be transferred across."
He concluded his message by thanking the community for their patience and support, expressing eagerness to welcome patrons back soon. The venue, situated at 32 Victoria Rd, Tamworth, B79 7HS, is poised for a fresh start under its new management, marking a significant turnaround from its recent closure announcement.
