Wayne Lineker Announces Closure of 'Fantastic' Ibiza Bar After Nearly Four Decades

Wayne Lineker, the brother of football legend Gary Lineker, has confirmed the closure of one of his popular Spanish bars in a move described as a sad "end of an era." The entrepreneur, who owns over a dozen bars across the Mediterranean, announced that Lineker's in the partying hotspot of Ibiza has now shut down after 37 years, shocking many regular visitors who flocked to the site annually.

Social Media Announcement Marks the End

Speaking on Instagram, Wayne Lineker shared a heartfelt message about the bar's legacy. He said, "Lineker's bar, what an unbelievable and epic ride we've had, becoming over the past 37 years, the home of football. But unfortunately now, in Ibiza, Lineker's is closed." He went on to highlight that Big Putz Fan Zone, which he owns with his son Sean, has become the new home of football in San Antonio, featuring the biggest screen in Ibiza.

In the caption of his Instagram video, the 63-year-old wrote, "Linekers Bar ibiza is now closed. The End of an Era... the home of football for tourists for 37 years across the world... Our flagship Linekers in Puerto Banus Marbella is still open and thriving, but the place to watch the World Cup in ibiza is Big Putts FANZONE." He urged people to book tickets and tables through the associated social media account, promising an "atmosphere you've never experienced - only in Linekers," and ended with a cheer of "Come on England."

Mixed Reviews Reflect Varied Experiences

Reviews of the now-closed bar are quite mixed, with some patrons sharing positive experiences while others were less impressed. On Tripadvisor, there are no reviews from 2026, with the last one written in September 2025. One reviewer, Inflatable A, described the bar as a "dump" with "c*** drinks," calling it a "big mistake" to visit on a Saturday night.

However, other reviews from 2022 and 2023 paint a different picture. Isabella H gushed about a staff member named Chantelle, writing, "Chantelle made our night. She was so, so welcoming and friendly. Will definitely return thanks to her!" Another reviewer, Mark H, said he had a "great time," noting, "Fantastic experience, Emanuel showed us into the bar, and approached us kindly unlike most other promoters, we got drinks and had a great time, thanks again to Emanuel."

Impact on Local Tourism and Future Plans

The closure of Lineker's bar after 37 years marks a significant shift in Ibiza's nightlife scene, which has long been a magnet for tourists seeking football-themed entertainment. Wayne Lineker's announcement emphasizes the transition to Big Putz Fan Zone as the new hub for watching major sporting events like the World Cup, suggesting a strategic move to modernize his business offerings in the area.

Despite the closure, Wayne Lineker remains active in the hospitality industry, with his flagship bar in Puerto Banus Marbella continuing to thrive. This development highlights the evolving nature of tourist destinations and the challenges faced by long-standing establishments in adapting to changing consumer preferences and market dynamics.
