Wetherspoons Expands UK Pub Network with New Bath Venue and Six Additional Locations
JD Wetherspoon has officially launched a brand-new pub in the United Kingdom this week, marking the beginning of a significant expansion phase for the popular pub chain. The Old Post Office in Bath opened its doors to customers on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, setting the stage for six more pub openings scheduled across the country before the summer season.
University of Birmingham Partnership Announced
Among the upcoming openings is a notable collaboration with the University of Birmingham's Guild of Students. The Guild has entered into a partnership with Wetherspoons to operate Joe's Bar and Restaurant, located within the student union. Joe's, named after the university's iconic clock tower, will continue to be managed by the Guild of Students, but will now benefit from Wetherspoon's established business model and operational expertise.
This partnership aims to enhance the student experience by providing value-for-money food and drinks, while also expanding job opportunities for students. As a charity supporting over 36,000 students, any surplus generated from Joe's will be reinvested into student activities and initiatives.

Wetherspoon's chief executive, John Hutson, expressed enthusiasm about the new partnership, stating, "We are delighted to have entered into the partnership with the Guild of Students and look forward to working with it to make Joe's Bar a great success."

- The Sir Ronald Wates at the University of Surrey in Guildford - scheduled to open in May
