Wolverhampton's Merry Boys Inn Closes for £383k Sports Pub Revamp
Wolverhampton pub's £383k Grandstand transformation

A popular Wolverhampton pub has temporarily closed its doors for a significant transformation that will see it become a top-tier destination for sports fans.

Major Investment for Moseley Village Pub

The Merry Boys Inn in Moseley Village shut on November 17 and will remain closed until December 10 while work takes place. The establishment is receiving a substantial investment of more than £383,000 from Marston's to convert it into one of their latest 'Grandstand' sports pubs.

This major revamp promises to create an electric matchday atmosphere for patrons when the doors reopen. The key features designed to achieve this include new cinema-style big screens and tiered seating arrangements that guarantee an excellent view of the action from anywhere in the pub.

New Features and Community Focus

Beyond the screens and seating, the refurbishment will introduce several other enhancements. A new pool table and an improved darts area will be installed, providing additional entertainment options. Television screens will also be added to the refurbished outdoor area, ensuring fans don't miss a moment of the game.

The pub's new look will be completed with sports memorabilia decorating the interior. In a move to strengthen community ties, The Merry Boys Inn is calling on local residents to share photographs and items that celebrate the achievements of Wolverhampton's sports stars and teams, both past and present.

Pub partner Andrew Taylor expressed his excitement, stating: "We will have some amazing new technology, food and drink offers and events, and we want as many local people to be featured on our walls as possible. We can’t wait to welcome all our regulars and some new faces in to see the new and improved Merry Boys Inn."

What to Expect Upon Reopening

When the pub reopens on December 10, it will show all key sporting fixtures, including:

  • Football
  • Rugby
  • Cricket
  • Tennis
  • F1
  • Darts
  • Horse racing

A new 'Match Day Menu' will launch alongside the refurbishment, featuring crowd-pleasers like chicken wings and nachos, while still offering pub favourites such as fish and chips and burgers.

In a significant boost for local sport, local sports teams will be able to apply for a ‘Black Card’. This membership will grant access to exclusive offers, endless chips on team nights, and rewards for celebrating victories at their local.

Marston’s selected The Merry Boys Inn for this Grandstand transformation due to its established involvement with local sports teams, community groups, and charities. The company stated that the refurbishment will create an exciting new proposition for local sports fans from Wolverhampton and beyond.
