GE Aerospace Unveils Major European Expansion with €110 Million Investment
Aerospace leader GE Aerospace has announced a substantial investment exceeding €110 million across its European manufacturing facilities this year, alongside plans to create more than 1,000 new employment opportunities. This strategic move aims to bolster production capacity and modernise operations throughout the continent.
Significant UK Investment and Workforce Growth
The company, which maintains a strong UK presence in locations such as Cheltenham, Gloucester, Cardiff, and Prestwick, will allocate approximately €10 million specifically for British sites. This funding will support critical upgrades to equipment, enhance manufacturing capabilities, and modernise building infrastructure across multiple locations.
Riccardo Procacci, President and Chief Executive of Propulsion and Additive Technologies at GE Aerospace, emphasised the company's commitment: "This significant investment reflects our long-term dedication to the European aerospace industry, a crucial market for many of our key customers. By expanding advanced manufacturing and testing capabilities across Europe, we are better positioned to meet growing customer demand while supporting the communities and economies where we operate."
European Footprint and Programme Support
With over a century of operations in Europe, GE Aerospace employs around 13,000 workers across 18 countries, making it the firm's largest global footprint outside the United States. The €110 million investment will be distributed among several nations, including:
- Italy
- Poland
- Czech Republic
- Romania
- United Kingdom
This financial injection will support various commercial engine programmes for both narrow and widebody aircraft, as well as military fighter jet and helicopter engine initiatives.
Workforce Development and Training Initiatives
Beyond infrastructure improvements, GE Aerospace is prioritising workforce development across Europe. The company plans to provide training grants to more than 800 students in the UK and Italy this year alone. Additionally, the expansion of the Next Engineers programme in Warsaw aims to reach over 4,000 students, fostering future talent in the aerospace sector.
Christian Meisner, Chief Human Resources Officer at GE Aerospace, highlighted this focus: "Our commitment extends beyond facilities and equipment; it is equally focused on our people. In an evolving industry, investing in skills, training, and talent pipelines across Europe is not just a tactical necessity but a strategic imperative. We are dedicated to ensuring that the European aerospace sector has the skilled workforce required to innovate, grow, and deliver exceptional value to our customers for decades to come."
This comprehensive investment strategy underscores GE Aerospace's commitment to strengthening its European operations, driving innovation, and supporting economic growth through job creation and advanced manufacturing capabilities.
