A historic village pub in the West Midlands, offering a rare chance for a new owner to take on a piece of local heritage, is set to go under the hammer next month.

The Bull on Pelham Street in the desirable village of Rodington, Shropshire, will be a featured lot in Bond Wolfe's upcoming livestreamed auction. The auction is scheduled for Wednesday, 10 December, and the property comes with a guide price of £235,000 or more.

This is not just any pub; it holds a Grade II-listed status, recognising its special architectural and historical interest. According to Historic England, the building's history is layered, with a rear timber-framed wing that potentially dates as far back as the 17th century. The main part of the building was constructed later, in the late 18th or early 19th century.

Ian Tudor, commercial auction director at Bond Wolfe, highlighted the pub's prime location in Rodington, which is situated roughly 10 miles east of Shrewsbury and four miles north of Wellington. The pub itself is currently vacant and sits in an elevated position opposite the village church.

"This is an attractive, currently vacant, two-storey pub of great character," Mr Tudor said. The brick-built freehold property features distinctive white-washed rendering and extends to the rear, incorporating its historic timber-framed sections.

The pub's trading areas are accessed from both the front and rear. At the front, a public bar runs the full width of the building, complete with a timber servery, tiled floor, beamed ceiling, and a brick-built fireplace. The space also includes cushioned bench seating and two areas for playing darts.

Moving towards the rear, up four steps, is the dining area. This space is split into two parts and can comfortably seat 52 covers. It is served by a kitchen, with customer toilets located between the two main areas. The pub also boasts a good-sized chilled beer cellar.
