Aldi is introducing a major festive upgrade to its popular food waste initiative, giving UK shoppers more time to secure heavily discounted groceries in the run-up to Christmas.
Extended Booking Window for Festive Shoppers
The supermarket giant has announced a significant change to its partnership with the Too Good To Go app. For a limited period over Christmas, customers will be able to reserve their 'Surprise Bag' of discounted food much further in advance.
Instead of the standard 24-hour booking window, shoppers can now secure a bag up to five days ahead of collection. This special arrangement will be in effect from Friday 19th December to Wednesday 24th December 2025.
The move is designed to offer greater convenience and planning flexibility during one of the busiest and most stressful shopping weeks of the year.
How the Aldi 'Surprise Bags' Work
Each Too Good To Go bag from Aldi costs £3.30 and is guaranteed to contain a minimum of £10 worth of food. The items are products that are approaching their sell-by or use-by dates but are still perfectly good to eat.
This initiative provides shoppers with substantial savings while directly tackling the problem of food waste. To date, Aldi has sold an impressive 1.5 million of these bags through the app.
The retailer anticipates selling more than 67,000 bags throughout December, with an estimated 10,000 bags expected to be snapped up on Christmas Eve alone.
New Year's Eve and a Growing Sustainability Drive
Aldi is also applying the extended booking logic to New Year's Eve. Shoppers can reserve a Surprise Bag for collection on December 31st anytime from Wednesday 17th December right through to the 31st itself.
Luke Emery, National Sustainability Director at Aldi UK, commented on the change: "This Christmas we're giving greater access to our Too Good To Go bags by letting customers secure them earlier than ever before. It's a simple way to pick up even lower priced items at Aldi, while cutting food waste."
He added that the company is proud of the partnership's role in its broader sustainability commitments and its growing popularity with customers.
A spokesperson for Too Good To Go said: "We're thrilled that Aldi is giving their customers even more flexibility... Every Surprise Bag purchased is a practical way to reduce food waste, save money, and make a positive impact on local communities."
Shoppers need to download the free Too Good To Go app, locate their nearest participating Aldi store, and reserve a bag within the new extended timeframes to take advantage of the offer.
