Supermarket giant Asda is significantly accelerating its presence in the convenience sector, with 20 new Express stores currently in the process of opening across the UK. This move marks a key phase in the retailer's ambitious growth strategy for 2025.
Convenience at the Core of Growth
The latest store to welcome shoppers is located in Ferndown, Dorset, offering residents access to more than 3,000 Asda own-label and branded products. This opening follows the recent launch of branches in locations including Horncastle, Wigan, and Manchester.
Joseph Sutton, Vice President for Asda Express, foodservice and fuel, expressed his enthusiasm for the ongoing rollout. He stated that the company is thrilled to bring Asda's unbeatable value to communities across the UK, providing everything from top-up essentials to convenient food-on-the-go options for new customers.
Rapid Rollout and Enhanced Services
David Lepley, Asda's chief supply chain officer, highlighted the remarkable speed of the expansion. In just three years, Asda has grown from having zero convenience stores to establishing a major presence in the channel, with a target of almost 500 stores by the end of this year.
Many of the new Express sites offer additional services to enhance customer convenience, which can include:
- Costa Coffee machines
- ATM facilities
- Amazon collection and return points
Furthermore, select branches have integrated with popular delivery platforms, enabling customers to order through Uber Eats, Just Eat, and Deliveroo.
