Aston Villa Transfer News: Unai Emery Targets New Right Winger

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has made the signing of a new right winger a top priority for the upcoming summer transfer window. The club currently lacks depth on both flanks, and reinforcements are needed regardless of Morgan Rogers' future at the club.

Current Squad Situation

Leon Bailey is set to leave Aston Villa, while Jadon Sancho has become a free agent after his loan spell last season. This leaves Emery with limited options in wide areas. Players like Rogers, Emi Buendia, and John McGinn can operate out wide, but none are natural wingers.

Six Transfer Targets

Here are six players Aston Villa are considering to bolster their attack this summer:

Ibrahim Mbaye

Paris Saint-Germain winger Ibrahim Mbaye is a top target for Villa, following initial interest in January. A deal could not be agreed then, but Villa have continued monitoring him closely. Mbaye, reportedly representing Senegal at the World Cup, impressed against France recently by scoring as a substitute. He started only 10 Ligue 1 matches last season and featured in just four of PSG's 17 Champions League games.

Harvey Barnes

Harvey Barnes is one of the more affordable options Villa are considering. Newcastle United are also targeting a winger after selling Anthony Gordon to Barcelona and losing out on Victor Muñoz to Liverpool. Barnes has long-standing interest from Villa, who have previously tried to sign him. The 28-year-old has two years left on his contract.

Crysencio Summerville

Crysencio Summerville is valued at around £40 million by West Ham United. The Dutch winger is expected to leave after the club's relegation to the Championship. Summerville joined West Ham for over £25 million in August 2024 and registered nine goal contributions last season despite the team's struggles. The 24-year-old scored seven goals across all competitions, including five in the Premier League, with four coming in consecutive matches between January and February.

Jonathan Rowe

Jonathan Rowe of Bologna is a player Villa know well. He was a constant threat against them in the Europa League quarter-final first leg and was named man of the match. Rowe previously emerged on Villa's radar, but Rogers was signed instead in January 2024. He scored four goals in 12 Europa League matches last season and added three in Serie A.

Karim Adeyemi

Borussia Dortmund attacker Karim Adeyemi has just 12 months left on his contract, alerting Villa and other clubs. Last season, the 24-year-old scored 10 goals across all competitions, including three in nine Champions League appearances. Adeyemi has scored seven goals in each of the last two Bundesliga campaigns and would add much-needed pace to Villa's attack.

Matias Fernandez-Pardo

Lille forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo also faced Villa last season, giving Emery a useful reference point. Sky Sport reports Villa have Fernandez-Pardo on their list of targets. The 21-year-old has three years left on his contract with Lille. Last season, he scored eight goals and provided five assists in 29 Ligue 1 matches, helping Lille to a third-place finish.
