Welcome to the latest Birmingham food and drink roundup, brought to you by journalist Kirsty Bosley. This week is packed with exciting updates, from a cafe that offers much more than coffee to the long-awaited Taco Bell opening.
Feedo Needo: A Cafe with a Heart in Digbeth
In the heart of Digbeth, Feedo Needo is not your average coffee shop. It serves hot drinks and meals, but also hosts barbers for haircuts, a food bank on Fridays, and even mental healthcare services. It primarily supports those experiencing homelessness, offering a warm and welcoming space. The cafe is a true community hub, and you can read the full story about its impact.
Pineapple House: Charity Coffee at the New Station
Opposite the brand new Pineapple Road train station, on the border of Stirchley and Kings Heath, Pineapple House is now open for commuter coffee. They serve delicious pineapple right-side-up cake and really good coffee. All profits go to the charity linked to the building since the 1930s. Three times a week after rush hour, visitors can pay what they can. It's a fun and unassuming space worth exploring.
Half Term Fun in Digbeth
For a budget-friendly half term adventure, head to Digbeth. There's a pocket money market, a food hall with international dishes, and public art everywhere. The new Alfresco at Alfred Works space is now open, featuring four new kitchens, live sport, and outdoor entertainment. Don't miss the Family Fest over the Bank Holiday weekend, with football pop-ups, DJs, and children's entertainment.
Taco Bell Opening Update
Many readers have been asking about the Taco Bell opening. Network Rail initially said it would open at the end of April, but has now issued an update: it will still open, but the date has been pushed back. Stay tuned for more details.
That's all for this week. Thanks for reading, and let's meet for pineapple right-side-up cakes soon!
