Bright Osayi-Samuel is being lined up for a possible return to Fenerbahce, according to Turkish journalist Erkan Yurusan. The Birmingham City defender is reportedly a 'candidate for right back' at the Super Lig club, but only on one condition.
Dependent on Semedo's Future
Yurusan claims the situation is dependent on former Wolves man Nélson Semedo, who is currently Fenerbahce's first choice in that position. Semedo is away with the Portugal squad at the World Cup, but it has been claimed he could leave just one season into a two-year contract in Istanbul. Fenerbahce values him at around €5-6 million.
Potential Upgrade for Fenerbahce
Fotospor reports that the Super Lig club will try to upgrade at right back. While they have cited Club Brugge's Hugo Siquet as a potential replacement, this latest report sees Osayi-Samuel potentially leaving St Andrew's after just one campaign.
Osayi-Samuel's Career Path
The former QPR winger arrived at Blues last summer after four years at Fenerbahce, where he made 178 appearances and won the Turkish Cup. His first season at Blues was inconsistent, starting off well before performances and availability tailed off due to his selection for the Africa Cup of Nations. He returned towards the end of the campaign and had a reasonably positive finish, amassing 29 games under Chris Davies.
Birmingham City's Right Back Options
Blues currently have Ethan Laird, who missed a large chunk of last term through injury, and midfielder Tomoki Iwata as other options at right back. Should Blues move on from Osayi-Samuel? Let us know.
