Claire's Closes All UK Stores, 1,300 Jobs Lost

On Monday, the final Claire's stores closed their doors for the last time, leaving more than 1,000 people out of work. Across the UK and Ireland, the brand has now disappeared from the high street, with staff at every location being informed of their redundancy.

In total, there have been 1,300 job losses across the 154 stores in both nations. A spokesperson from the insolvency practitioners at Kroll stated: "As of April 27, all Claire's standalone stores in UK and Ireland have ceased trading. All store employees have been advised of redundancy."

However, there is a glimmer of hope for some locations. According to Sky News, French businessman Julien Jarjoura is in negotiations with landlords to take on new leases for up to 50 sites. Last month, Mr Jarjoura said: "As an entrepreneur I could not bear the idea of letting go a business that was worth saving."

Despite these efforts, there is no guarantee these locations will be saved. Claire's UK business entered administration back in January, marking the end of an era for the accessories retailer on British high streets.
