The opening date has been confirmed for a new coffee shop in Great Barr, which will take over a former post office that had fallen into disrepair. The establishment, named The Coffee House, is set to open its doors on Saturday, 25 March, according to the owners.
Transformation of a Derelict Site
The property, located on the High Street, had been vacant for several years and was described as an eyesore by local residents. The new coffee shop will occupy the ground floor, with the upper floor converted into a two-bedroom flat. The owners have invested £150,000 into the renovation, which includes new flooring, lighting, and a fully fitted kitchen.
Community Reaction
Local councillor Bob Grice welcomed the development, stating, "It's fantastic to see this building being brought back into use. It will be a great addition to the area and will provide a much-needed boost to the High Street." Residents have expressed similar enthusiasm, with many looking forward to having a new place to meet and socialise.
Menu and Offerings
The Coffee House will serve a range of hot and cold drinks, including specialty coffees, teas, and smoothies, alongside homemade cakes and sandwiches. The owners have sourced coffee beans from a local roastery to ensure freshness and support local businesses. The shop will also offer free Wi-Fi and a loyalty scheme for regular customers.
Employment Opportunities
The venture has created five new jobs for local people, with positions including baristas and kitchen staff. The owners have prioritised hiring from the local community, providing training in customer service and food preparation.
Future Plans
If successful, the owners plan to extend the opening hours to include evening events, such as live music and poetry readings. They also intend to host workshops on coffee brewing and cake decorating, aiming to make The Coffee House a community hub.
