House of Fraser in Birmingham's Corporation Street will close for good next week, marking the end of an era for the city centre. The iconic department store, originally known as Rackhams before rebranding in 2003, has been a retail staple for more than a century.
Closing Down Sale Offers Massive Discounts
Shoppers can still grab bargains with massive 50% discounts on designer brands including Tommy Hilfiger, Barbour, Boss, Pretty Green, Lyle and Scott, Jack Wills and Nike. Full suits are now on sale for under £40. The store initially launched a closing down sale with 20% off all products, and prices have now been slashed even further.
Only the skeleton middle and ground floors remain open for browsing. The top floor has already closed to shoppers. BirminghamLive understands the final closure date is June 25.
End of an Era for Birmingham Retail
BirminghamLive first revealed in April that the store would close in late June, with staff described as feeling "very sad". House of Fraser fell into administration in 2018 before being saved by Sports Direct tycoon Mike Ashley. In 2023, the Birmingham store was converted into one of the chain's outlet branches under the 'Frasers' rebrand.
BirminghamLive has contacted House of Fraser for confirmation of the final closing date.
