Leads United Lead Aston Villa for Zion Suzuki

Leeds United are leading Aston Villa in the race to sign Japanese international goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, according to Calciomercato. The 23-year-old, currently at the World Cup with Japan, has attracted interest from both Premier League clubs, as well as AC Milan and Internazionale.

Premier League Clubs Battle for Suzuki

Calciomercato reports that both Leeds and Villa have 'made a move' for Suzuki, who is preparing for Japan's knockout clash with Brazil. Suzuki featured in all three group stage matches against Netherlands, Tunisia and Sweden. He signed a five-year contract with Parma in July 2024 and has made 59 appearances for the Serie A side.

Leeds have already made contact regarding Suzuki as they address a goalkeeping crisis. Lucas Perri was dropped last season, and both Karl Darlow and Illan Meslier are set to become free agents later this week. Villa, meanwhile, have long-standing first-choice keeper Emiliano Martinez, though speculation surrounds his future with Juventus reportedly interested. Martinez is at the World Cup with Argentina and revealed he opted not to have surgery on a finger injury sustained in the Europa League final warm-up.

Parma is holding out for €30 million (£26 million) for Suzuki. Leeds and Villa have already clashed in the transfer market this window, with Harry Wilson reportedly choosing Elland Road over a switch to Champions League-bound Villa. According to the report, Leeds are 'ahead' of Villa in the race for Suzuki.
