Lidl has announced a significant reduction in prices on over 1,000 everyday essentials, including milk, fresh meat, and bread, as part of a £250 million investment strategy. The supermarket chain, which operates branches in Birmingham, aims to provide better value for customers facing rising household costs.

Price Reductions on Popular Items

The investment has led to lower prices on staple foods such as fresh meat, fruit and vegetables, eggs, milk, bread, and yogurt. Specific deals include mature cheddar reduced from £2.79 to £2.49, cherries (200g) from £2.29 to £1.39, and four beef quarter pounders from £3.49 to £2.89.

Customer Commitment

Richard Bourns, Chief Commercial Officer at Lidl GB, stated: "We know customers continue to face pressure on their household budgets, especially heading into the summer months. Our £250 million investment in lowering prices on over 1,000 products ensures customers get even better value." He added that this investment, combined with increased promotions via the Lidl Plus app, reinforces the company's commitment to delivering high-quality products at the lowest possible prices.

Market Growth

The price cuts come as recent Worldpanel figures show Lidl now holds an 8.6% market share, with sales rising 8.8% in the 12 weeks to May 17. This growth reflects continued customer confidence in the discounter's value proposition, solidifying its position as a destination for weekly shopping. Since opening its first store in 1994, Lidl has expanded significantly, with over 3 in 5 households now shopping there. The company has secured over £661 million in switching gains from customers moving from competitors over the past year.

CEO Comments

Ryan McDonnell, CEO of Lidl GB, said: "Becoming Great Britain’s fifth-largest supermarket is a significant milestone and a clear indication of the momentum we have built. As customer expectations shift, households are looking for value they can rely on without compromising on quality, and we remain laser-focused on delivering exactly that." He praised the dedication of colleagues and outlined ambitious expansion plans to bring great value and quality products to more communities across Great Britain.
