Manchester United are working to finalise a deal to sign Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa. The 29-year-old Belgian midfielder is in the final two years of his contract with Villa, and his release clause of £35 million is expected to be triggered by United.
Villa's Position and Potential Replacement
Aston Villa are essentially powerless to prevent Tielemans' departure once the clause is activated. The club is, however, finalising the signing of Yohan Manzambi from SC Freiburg as a potential replacement. Tielemans joined Villa on a free transfer from Leicester City in the summer of 2024, meaning any sale would be recorded as pure profit on the books.
Tielemans' Impact at Villa
Since his arrival, Tielemans has made 134 appearances for Villa and played a key role in their success. He opened the scoring in Villa's 3-0 victory over Freiburg in the Europa League final in May, a highlight of his time at the club.
