Matches Fashion to Relaunch in UK in 2026 Under New Ownership
Matches Fashion set for UK return in 2026

The popular British luxury fashion retailer, Matches Fashion, is poised for a dramatic return to the UK market in 2026, following its collapse last year. The brand will be revived under new ownership by the founders of the high-end shopping app, Mile.

The Visionaries Behind the Revival

Fashion entrepreneurs Joe Wilkinson and Mario Maher are the driving force behind the resurrection. They plan to integrate Matches and its in-house label, Raey, into a new luxury group named Hulcan. The duo, speaking to Vogue Business, outlined their ambition to honour the brand's legacy while introducing a fresh perspective.

"We want to keep the heritage of Matches and what everyone knew Matches for: curation, exclusivity, and strong product," explained Mr Maher. He confirmed the core identity would remain, but added, "It will be different from what it was. It will definitely have a new angle."

A Tumultuous History and a New Chapter

The retailer's journey to this point has been rocky. Matches Fashion collapsed into administration in March 2024, a mere three months after the Frasers Group purchased it from private equity firm Apax Partners. This swift failure sent shockwaves through the luxury retail sector.

Now, with the backing of investors, Wilkinson and Maher are preparing to write a new chapter. Mr Wilkinson described the move as a "big moment," stating their goal is to create an integrated ecosystem for the future of luxury.

Building a Future Luxury Ecosystem

"We’re bringing brands, media, and technology together into one ecosystem built for the future of luxury," Wilkinson said. He emphasised that the project is not merely about creating another shopping destination. "We want to shape how people discover, experience, and connect with brands."

The pair pointed to their six-year track record of building the Mile app from the ground up as proof of their ability to innovate and scale responsibly. Further details regarding the relaunch are expected to be announced in the New Year, as reported by The Sun.

This planned return marks a significant attempt to reclaim a beloved name in British luxury fashion, blending its established reputation with a modern, technology-driven approach.
