McCain has confirmed it is discontinuing its Baby Hasselbacks frozen potato product, just three years after it was launched. The decision comes as part of a regular review of the company's product range.
Product details and availability
The 653g bags contained skin-on, pre-sliced whole baby potatoes, accompanied by a sea salt and cracked black pepper flavour sachet. The product was widely available in major UK supermarkets including Asda, Sainsbury's, Tesco, and Morrisons, with an average retail price of £3.69.
Company statement
A spokesperson for McCain told The Sun: “McCain Hasselbacks have now been discontinued as part of a review of the product range. We regularly assess our portfolio to ensure we are focusing on the products that best meet shoppers’ needs. Our McCain Jackets range continues to be widely available in retailers across the UK and remains a popular choice with consumers, offering a quick, convenient, wholesome and great-tasting meal solution for busy households.”
Similar discontinuations in the industry
The move follows Walkers' decision to axe its Crinkles range in April 2026. Walkers had halted production of the crinkle-cut snack in February, despite relaunching the range in 2024 after a previous stoppage in 2022. A spokesperson for Walkers said: “After a great run, Walkers Crinkles will soon be leaving shelves. We know some fans may be disappointed, but they can still choose from our line-up of great-tasting crisps, from our new Walkers Baked flavours Slow Roasted Beef and Sun Dried Tomato & Basil to our bold Walkers MAX flavours. Evolving our portfolio allows us to focus on making more of the flavours people love the most.” The Walkers Crinkles range, first launched in the UK in 2011, included flavours such as Simply Sea Salted, Cheddar & Onion, Salt & Malt Vinegar, and Sweet Chilli.
