National Lottery operator Allwyn has confirmed a major change to its scratchcard range from September, with the top prize doubling to £4 million. The new festive-themed game, titled ‘When It’s Gold Outside’, will be priced at £10 and gives buyers 37 chances to win on every single card.
New £4m scratchcard game details
The ‘When It’s Gold Outside’ scratchcard is being introduced specifically to benefit retailers in the lead-up to and during the festive period. It will feature four top prizes of £4 million each, meaning the game is on track to create four new National Lottery multi-millionaires.
In addition to the life-changing jackpots, the game offers a strong concentration of lower-tier prizes at £10, £15 and £20. A range of other wins, from £50 to £500, can be paid out directly in stores, providing shops with the opportunity to earn additional commission.
Allwyn's statement on the enhanced scratchcard
Nikki Vadera, Director of Scratchcards at Allwyn, said: “We’re delighted to be enhancing our National Lottery Scratchcards offer with this truly standout game.”
She added: “‘When It’s Gold Outside’ is being specifically ranged from September onwards to benefit retailers in the lead up to, and during, the festive period. And we're supporting the new game across a number of marketing touchpoints, including in-store activations to enhance the launch.”
Vadera continued: “The quality look and feel, paired with the generous game-play and prizes on offer, make ‘When It’s Gold Outside’ the perfect gift or special treat for retailers to suggest to their customers. We’re really excited to see how this pilot performs for our retail partners, as we continue to do all that we can to help them maximise their sales alongside returns to National Lottery Good Causes.”
Impact on players and retailers
The change means that from September, scratchcard fans will see their odds of winning boosted, as the operator doubles its highest jackpot win. The new game is part of Allwyn's ongoing efforts to enhance the National Lottery scratchcard offering and support retail partners.
With the festive period approaching, the game aims to attract both regular players and those looking for a special treat, while also driving additional footfall and commission for retailers across the UK. The four £4 million top prizes will be available from the game's launch, creating the potential for four new multi-millionaires in the coming months.
