Free Cakes and Grinch Greet Launch of New Sutton Coldfield Dessert Shop
New Cake Box & Ambala shop opens in Sutton Coldfield

A unique new dessert destination has officially opened its doors in Sutton Coldfield, combining two beloved brands and marking the occasion with free treats and a festive character appearance.

A Sweet Partnership Arrives in Boldmere

The new joint venture between Cake Box and Ambala is now trading at the former Gaby Travels and New Arrivals boutique unit on Boldmere Road, near the Sutton Park pub. This represents the first combined outlet for the two brands in England, following successful joint operations in Scotland.

Cake Box, renowned for its handmade fresh cream cakes that are egg-free, is expanding its presence in Birmingham, with this Sutton Coldfield store becoming its ninth in the city. Nationally, the chain boasts over 260 stores. Ambala, a specialist in authentic Indian sweets known as mithai, is complementing its two existing Birmingham shops in Small Heath and Sparkhill with this new Sutton outlet.

Celebratory Launch with Free Giveaways

To celebrate the official opening on Saturday, December 20, the shop is hosting a special event. The first 100 customers will receive a free slice of cake, while 100 free cupcake sundaes will be handed out to children. Adding to the festive fun, The Grinch will be present between 11am and 4pm to help with the giveaways.

Even after the initial free slices are gone, free samples of cake and mithai will be available throughout the day, which runs until 7pm. The shop had a soft opening on Wednesday, December 17.

What's on the Menu?

The takeaway-only shop offers a wide range of vegetarian products. From Cake Box, customers can find everything from individual slices to whole celebration cakes, with sizes ranging from six inches to a giant 20 inches, perfect for birthdays, weddings, and parties. Personalisation is available, often within an hour.

From Ambala, shoppers can explore a range of traditional mithai, savoury items like samosas and spring rolls, and other sweet and savoury treats from the Indian subcontinent. The Ambala brand has been serving these handcrafted sweets for over 50 years.

A Family-Run Venture for the Community

The store is run by Bav Samra, a 36-year-old Boldmere resident, for whom this is her third shop. She highlighted the local connection, stating the location is perfect and that running a business close to home has allowed family and local parents and children to help out, making it a true family-run enterprise.

Sukh Chamdal, founder and CEO of Cake Box, expressed delight at bringing the two brands together in Sutton Coldfield, emphasising the goal of creating a fun, festive experience for the community. Following the Christmas period, the shop's regular hours will be 11am to 7pm, Monday to Saturday, and 10am to 5pm on Sundays.
