British shoe retailer Russell & Bromley has closed 10 of its stores, sparking a rush of bargain hunters eager to take advantage of discounts of up to 90 per cent. The company, which previously operated 36 high street outlets across the UK before being acquired by Next, has begun the first wave of closures as part of a pre-pack administration agreement.
Stores Closed and Clearance Sales
The retailer shut its Covent Garden, Bath and Harrogate locations this week and launched clearance sales with 90 per cent off everything. Customers have taken to social media to showcase incredible deals, including a pair of boots originally priced at £900 for just £128. TikTok user @ninalisaaa filmed her shopping trip, capturing the remaining bargains as shelves were emptied for the final time.
Fellow shopper @lauracathryn said she wasted no time visiting the Ashford branch upon hearing the news, revealing that both this year's and last year's stock were heavily discounted. She said: "I could not get over the prices. They had shoes for £30 from over £300 - that is a 90 per cent reduction. The amount of stock they have is crazy - I was in shoe heaven."
Responding to her video, one viewer wrote: "I'm devastated they are closing. My favourite store for work shoes. They last ages!" Another replied: "I'm sorry, 90 per cent?!?!" A third commented: "I've just ordered online - we will see."
List of Closed Russell & Bromley Stores
The closures follow Next's acquisition of the British footwear brand through a pre-pack administration deal in January this year. The fashion giant secured the Russell & Bromley brand, additional intellectual property, and three specific stores in Chelsea, Mayfair, and Bluewater. Next successfully transferred 40 members of staff to its business as part of the deal.
Russell & Bromley had previously operated from 36 stores with approximately 440 employees, but now faces the planned closure of 33 standalone stores and nine concessions across the UK and Ireland, according to Drapers. The brand was established in 1880 by George Bromley and Elizabeth Russell in Eastbourne, gaining recognition for its signature loafers, boots, pumps, and brogues. It garnered a loyal following among high-profile figures including Kate Middleton, Katie Holmes, and Billie Piper.
The Daily Express has approached Russell & Bromley's joint administrators Interpath for a response.
