Shoppers at Sainsbury's are being urged to pay close attention to a small detail on shelf labels that could unlock significant savings on their grocery bills.
The Secret Behind the Shelf Label
TikTok content creator and ITV's This Morning regular, Jordon Cox, has exposed the hidden meaning behind a specific code found on Sainsbury's price tags. He warns customers not to overlook this detail, as it directly indicates when a promotional price is due to end.
According to Cox, the code reveals the start date of a Nectar Price offer. He explains that Sainsbury's deals typically run for two to three weeks and expire or rotate on a Tuesday. "So if the date on a label is from a few weeks ago, then stock up now before the price goes up!" he advised. This simple trick allows savvy shoppers to identify items that are about to return to their regular, higher price.
Sainsbury's Focus on Value and Growth
This consumer insight comes as Sainsbury's released its interim results for the 28 weeks ended 13 September 2025. Chief Executive Simon Roberts outlined the supermarket's strategy, which has centred on easing cost-of-living pressures for customers.
Roberts stated that the company has kept price inflation behind the wider market, leading to continued grocery volume growth ahead of competitors for a fifth consecutive year. He highlighted key investments, including the Aldi Price Match on essentials and the rollout of personalised Your Nectar Prices to all supermarket customers.
Customers saved an average of £14 on an £80+ big weekly shop with Nectar Prices, contributing to an improved perception of value. Roberts also noted strong performance in the retailer's premium Taste the Difference range and at Argos.
What This Means for Shoppers
The combination of strategic price investment and understanding shelf label codes puts power back into the hands of consumers. By learning to interpret the dates on Nectar Price labels, shoppers can:
- Identify products that are nearing the end of their promotional period.
- Make informed decisions to stock up before prices increase.
- Maximise the savings from Sainsbury's various price initiatives.
With the supermarket expressing confidence heading into the Christmas period, customers equipped with this knowledge can better navigate the aisles to stretch their budgets further, turning everyday shopping into a more strategic exercise.
