Sainsbury's Expands Nectar Rewards: Earn Points on Uber Eats Groceries
Sainsbury's Nectar Points Now on Uber Eats Grocery Orders

Sainsbury's has expanded its Nectar loyalty rewards scheme, allowing cardholders to earn points on Sainsbury's grocery orders placed through Uber Eats. The move integrates the supermarket's loyalty programme with the popular delivery platform, enabling customers to accumulate rewards on convenience orders.

How the New Nectar Points Work

Starting immediately, Nectar card holders who purchase eligible Sainsbury's products via the Uber Eats app or website will receive one Nectar point for every £1 spent. The offer applies to a wide range of grocery items, but certain products are excluded, including gift vouchers, baby milk, lottery tickets, tobacco, and vapes. A minimum spend of £1 is required to qualify for points.

The new collection facility is available at participating Sainsbury's stores across the UK, with over 1,300 sites included in the rollout. Points earned through Uber Eats orders will be added to the customer's Nectar account within 28 days of the transaction.

Important Steps to Ensure Points Are Credited

Customers are strongly advised to verify that they have entered their full Nectar card number at checkout before completing an order. Failure to do so will prevent the points from being processed, and Sainsbury's has confirmed that points cannot be awarded retrospectively. This means shoppers must double-check their details to avoid missing out on valuable rewards.

Once the correct card number is registered, eligible points will automatically appear in the Nectar account within the 28-day window. The process does not require any additional steps beyond entering the card number.

Expanding the Nectar-Uber Partnership

This development extends the existing partnership between Nectar and Uber, which already allows members to convert their Nectar points into vouchers for Uber rides and Uber Eats purchases. Now, customers can both earn points on Sainsbury's groceries via Uber Eats and redeem those points for Uber services, creating a seamless loop of earning and spending.

To redeem points, shoppers can access the Nectar app, navigate to the 'Partners' section, and select Uber. This flexibility means that every grocery order can contribute to future transport or food delivery discounts.

What Customers and Executives Say

Katie Hunter, Uber Eats general manager for grocery and retail in the UK, commented: "We know how much Uber Eats customers love Nectar, so bringing points directly to their Sainsbury's orders was a no-brainer. Now, they can collect Nectar points on all their Sainsbury's essentials as well as spending them across the entire Uber app. It's all about delivering flexibility, convenience and value for customers right alongside their favourite groceries."

Mark Given, Sainsbury's chief technology, marketing and data officer, added: "Nectar members can already turn their points into Uber rides or Uber Eats treats – and now they can collect points when ordering Sainsbury's groceries through Uber Eats too. It's another way we're helping customers get more from Nectar, whether they're stocking up on essentials, planning dinner or making everyday life that little bit easier."
