Sutton Coldfield's Gracechurch Centre is set for a significant transformation, with a new Tesco convenience store, a climbing wall centre, and a bowling alley all confirmed to open before the end of the year. The first residential development at the site has also been approved, marking a strategic shift towards entertainment and leisure.
New Food Outlet and Leisure Venues Confirmed
Coun David Pears confirmed that a new Tesco convenience store will replace the current Ryman's stationers and Toys 4 You shop. The climbing wall centre Clip 'n Climb is expected to open in the former Bodyshop unit, while the bowling alley will occupy the former Argos unit.
"On the sports front the bowling facility will be open by Christmas and the new padel board courts in Spring 2027," Coun Pears said. The padel courts will be built at the top of the centre's car park.
First Residential Development at the Site
Plantsbrook House is being converted into 25 flats, marking the first residential development at the Gracechurch Centre. This move is part of a broader strategy by the site's co-owner, SAV Group, to diversify the centre's offerings.
Ross Symonov from SAV Group confirmed the strategy shift, saying "our strategy is entertainment" rather than retail. He expects to close five to six deals within the next six months, indicating a rapid pace of change for the centre.

The new venues are expected to provide additional leisure options for Sutton Coldfield residents, with the bowling alley and climbing wall catering to families and young people. The Tesco store will offer a convenient shopping option in the centre, while the residential flats will bring new residents to the area.
