Tesco is rolling out a new age rule for the first time, with Clubcards now available to shoppers under 18. The supermarket giant has launched a version of its iconic Tesco Clubcard for 16 and 17-year-olds, granting younger customers access to thousands of Clubcard Prices deals for the first time.
New Clubcard for Teens
The new ‘Clubcard for 16-17s’ allows teenagers in that age group to sign up for a Tesco Clubcard that enables them to access Clubcard Prices in Tesco stores and collect Clubcard points. These points can be converted into vouchers for money off at the checkout.
To join Clubcard for 16-17s, the teenager must be invited to join from the Clubcard account of a parent or guardian. The new digital Clubcard is only available through the Tesco app or website.
Statement from Tesco
“We are delighted to be giving younger customers access to Tesco Clubcard for the first time, and we have no doubt that it will prove popular with 16 and 17-year-olds, whether they are shopping in one of our ‘big Tesco’ or ‘little Tesco’ stores,” said Tesco Group Membership & Loyalty Director Shama Wilson.
“From today our new Clubcard for 16-17s members will not only be able to get Clubcard Prices in-store, including our iconic Tesco lunchtime meal deal for just £3.85, but also collect points that they can turn into vouchers for money off their in-store shopping.”
Safety and Restrictions
The Tesco FAQ page puts parents at ease, stating: “We've launched Clubcard for 16-17s with the core benefits to make sure it's safe, simple and works well for members. Some features, like online shopping, Clubcard Reward Partners and Your Clubcard Prices aren't available right now, but we're always reviewing how we can expand the offer in the future.”
“Clubcard for 16-17s are automatically opted out of marketing and will not receive offers or coupons and will only have access to the relevant Clubcard page within their Tesco app or online account.”
There are some age-restricted items such as alcohol, tobacco and vapes which require ID and are for over 18’s only.
