Tesco has launched a time-sensitive promotion that could see millions of its loyalty card members pocket an extra £50 in Clubcard points. The supermarket giant has confirmed the return of its popular Clubcard Challenges scheme, but shoppers must act fast to take part.
How the Clubcard Challenges Work
The scheme, which is exclusively for Clubcard members, sets personalised spending goals and tasks. Shoppers can select from up to ten different challenges, each tailored around brands they frequently purchase. By successfully completing every assigned challenge, participants can accumulate a bonus of up to £50 worth of extra Clubcard points, which equates to 5,000 points.
However, there is a crucial deadline. The opportunity to participate and earn these bonus points closes on February 23, giving customers just weeks to get involved and complete their missions.
Personalisation and Data Use
In order to create these customised offers, Tesco states it needs to analyse shopping habits. On its website, the retailer explains: "We need to understand your shopping habits so we can personalise the products that you receive in Your Clubcard Prices each week." It adds that personal data is also used to service the offer, manage complaints, and ensure compliance with the terms.
Clubcard Plus Subscription Details
Alongside the challenges, Tesco is promoting its Clubcard Plus subscription. New subscribers can get their first month free, provided they haven't been subscribed to the service in the previous six months. To sign up, customers must enter payment details but won't be charged immediately.
After the initial free period, a monthly fee of £7.99 will be charged automatically. Subscribers can cancel at any time via their Clubcard Plus account, or by calling 0800 591 688 within 14 days of joining for a full refund.
It is important to note that the key benefits of Clubcard Plus, including 10% off two big shops and 10% off selected Tesco brands, are only available in-store and cannot be used for online orders. These offers are managed through the Tesco Grocery & Clubcard app.
For millions of regular Tesco shoppers, the coming weeks present a valuable chance to significantly boost their loyalty point balance, simply by sticking to their usual shopping list with a few targeted additions.
