The Range and Wilko to Close All 280 Stores for 48 Hours Over Christmas
The Range and Wilko shut all shops for 48 hours at Christmas

The Range, the popular home and leisure retailer, has announced a complete shutdown of its entire store network over the Christmas period. This closure will also apply to all shops operating under the Wilko brand, which it now owns.

Full Festive Shutdown for Staff

In a move to thank its workforce, bosses have confirmed that all 280 branches nationwide will be locked for 48 hours. The stores will remain closed on both Christmas Day and Boxing Day, providing employees with a guaranteed extended break to spend with their families.

A spokesperson for The Range and Wilko stated that this marks the third consecutive year the company has implemented this policy. "This is the third year in which the business has thanked team members by providing an extended festive break," they said.

Revised Opening Hours for New Year

Shoppers hoping to hunt for post-Christmas bargains will need to wait until Thursday, December 27 for doors to reopen. The company has also outlined its plans for the New Year period.

While outlets will trade normal hours on New Year's Eve, they will operate to Sunday opening times on New Year's Day, in line with typical Bank Holiday arrangements. Customers are advised to check the precise details for their nearest store using the online store locators at therange.co.uk and wilko.com.

Wilko's Continued Presence on the High Street

The announcement reinforces the ongoing relationship between The Range and the Wilko brand. In 2023, The Range purchased Wilko’s brand, website, and intellectual property after the latter fell into administration.

This deal ensured the Wilko name would not vanish, with The Range committing to selling Wilko products "in-store." At the time of the acquisition, Alex Simpkin, CEO of The Range, emphasised the commitment to value and saving retail jobs, noting the retention of Wilko's digital trading team.

The coordinated closure across both brands highlights a unified operational approach under the current ownership, prioritising staff welfare during the key holiday season.
