Three Mobile's New £2 Rule Sparks Customer Fury

Three Mobile has confirmed a new £2 rule for customers, doubling the cost of its Caffe Nero coffee discount from £1 to £2 and leaving many furious. The mobile network's Three+ rewards app now requires customers to pay £2 for a barista-crafted drink, up from the previous £1, and the reward code must be activated and used within just one hour.

Customer Backlash on Social Media

The change has sparked outrage among subscribers. One customer fumed on social media: “Money grabbing @ThreeUK doubling the cost of the Caffe Nero drink to £2! The deals just keep getting worse! Do better.” Another wrote: “Three increasing the Caffe Nero reward from £1 to £2…. are they joking.” A third simply posted “fix it” to the mobile provider.

Three+ Rewards App Details

On its website, Three promotes the app: "Download our Three+ rewards app and enjoy offers from the UK’s biggest brands. Get a barista-crafted drink every week for just £1 at 100s of local cafés." However, the price has now risen to £2, contradicting the advertised £1 offer. The app also includes deals such as two burgers or wraps for £12 at Turtle Bay and a Popeyes meal for £5, plus access to presales for festivals, music gigs, and comedy events.

Eligibility and Usage Conditions

Three states: "It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been with us. If you have an eligible Pay Monthly or Pay As You Go plan, then you can access Three+." However, users must have an active Three account and cannot use their My3 login details for Three+; they need to register a new account. Pay As You Go customers must top up at least £10 every 90 days to access rewards, and after a top-up, it takes 24 hours to use the app.

Impact on Customers

The price hike from £1 to £2 represents a 100% increase, and the one-hour usage window adds further frustration. Customers feel the value of the reward has diminished significantly, especially compared to the original offer. Three has not publicly commented on the backlash, but the change is effective immediately for all users.
