Aston Villa have completed the sale of striker Lewis Dobbin to Southampton for a fee of £9 million, with additional add-ons included in the deal. The 22-year-old forward, who joined Villa from Everton in 2024 for a similar fee, was made available for a permanent transfer this summer following an impressive loan spell at Preston North End last season.
Impressive Loan Performance at Preston
During his time at Preston, Dobbin scored 10 goals and provided seven assists in 39 Championship appearances. He also found the net in Preston's Carabao Cup defeat to Wrexham. His performances attracted interest from several clubs, with Southampton securing his signature.
Background and Previous Loan Spells
Dobbin came through the youth ranks at Everton and was part of a 'PSR trade' that saw him move to Villa, while Tim Iroegbunam moved in the opposite direction in a separate transaction. His first loan spell away from Villa was at West Bromwich Albion, but he failed to score for the Baggies before being recalled in January 2025. He then showed promise on loan at Norwich for the second half of the season, but missed the final three months due to injury.
