A Castle Bromwich pub has unveiled plans to expand its beer garden to accommodate more customers. The Farthings, located on Green Lane, is owned by the Stonegate group and has submitted a planning application to Solihull Council.
Details of the Expansion
The proposed expansion would extend the beer garden by five metres by nine-and-a-half metres onto the existing tarmac car park to the west of the site. According to a design and access statement included in the application, the works aim to improve the external areas of the pub, making it more appealing to passersby and increasing trade.
The new area will be surrounded by low-level timber picket fencing to match the existing timber already outside the pub. The statement confirms that the expansion will avoid any interference with existing habitats or trees on site. Astroturf will be installed, along with new festoon lighting and posts. To access the new area, stepped access will be added from the current seating area and pub entrance.
Impact on Parking and Seating
As part of the development, the car parking spaces will be rearranged, reducing the number from 11 to eight in a different layout. The pub plans to add five new benches, increasing the beer garden capacity by 40 covers. The new festoon lighting will be an extension of the existing lighting already in the beer garden to the west of the pub.
Neighbours and interested parties can have their say on the proposal during a consultation that has now opened. The closing date for submissions is June 10.
