A pioneering County Durham firm dedicated to sports safety has launched an ambitious £1 million crowdfunding campaign to fuel its international expansion.
Protecting the Brain in Sport
Founded in Stanley four years ago, Rezon specialises in developing advanced sports headbands engineered specifically to protect the brain. The company's flagship product, Halos, is scientifically designed to lower the risk of concussion and mitigate the accumulated damage from sub-concussive impacts in contact and collision sports.
This significant seven-figure funding round, hosted on the Crowdcube platform, aims to propel the business to its next phase of growth. Having already sold over 2,000 units across more than 30 countries, Rezon is now seeking public investment to accelerate its global mission.
A Vision for a Safer Sporting Future
Judith McMinn, CEO and founder of Rezon, articulated the core mission driving the campaign. "For 30 years I have asked why we protect our shins and teeth in sport, but not the brain?" she stated.
McMinn expressed pride in the company's journey over the past four years, collaborating with partners and experts to build a safer future for athletes of all abilities. She emphasised that crowdfunding allows the public to directly participate in this vital change. "For brain protection to work, it must scale publicly," McMinn explained, inviting the sports community, parents, medics, and coaches to own a part of this journey.
Accelerating Global Growth and Innovation
The capital raised will be strategically deployed to accelerate commercialisation on a worldwide scale. Rezon, which operates through both business-to-business and direct-to-consumer channels, plans to deepen its penetration into both grassroots and elite sport.
Further growth plans include:
- Expanding supply chain capacity to meet rising demand.
- Rolling out the technology for medical use cases, aiding individuals with a heightened vulnerability to head injury.
The company's innovative approach has already garnered significant recognition. Earlier this year, Rezon won the Innovation Award for Sports Equipment Design at the FIT Sport Design Awards 2025. The B-Corp certified business was also a finalist at the prestigious SPOT 2025 Awards in Lausanne, Switzerland, cementing its status as a leader in sports technology.
