The aircraft are designed to cruise at 250 km/h with a range of 100 kilometres on a single charge. This is expected to reduce travel time from Birmingham Airport to the city centre from 25 minutes by car to just 8 minutes by air. A survey commissioned by ePlane indicated that 62% of Birmingham residents support the introduction of electric air taxis, citing reduced congestion and lower emissions.

Regulatory and Environmental Impact

The partnership will also focus on working with the Civil Aviation Authority to secure type certification and operational approvals. ePlane has already completed two successful test flights of a scaled prototype at the Midlands Air Festival. Dr. Richards stated, "We are on track to become one of the first UK cities to host regular eVTOL services.
