College Pop-Up Shop Raises £2,500 for Homeless Charity

Oaklands College Hosts Successful Charity Pop-Up Shop

Oaklands College recently demonstrated its commitment to community support by hosting a pop-up shop and donation sorting hub for the local charity Help 4 the Homeless during the February half-term. This initiative proved to be a resounding success, engaging staff, students, and residents in a meaningful cause.

Event Details and Community Engagement

The event took place in the open atrium event space of the college's Construction Centre, where visitors had the opportunity to purchase high-quality, second-hand clothing at affordable prices. All proceeds from these sales were directed straight to Help 4 the Homeless, directly aiding individuals experiencing homelessness in the area.

Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of the local community and the dedicated efforts of numerous volunteers, the event managed to raise an impressive total of £2,500. This significant amount highlights the collective impact achievable when people unite for a common goal.

Volunteer Efforts and Donation Sorting

Donations poured in from across the region, including clothes, shoes, and essential toiletries. Volunteers worked tirelessly to sort these items on the college campus, ensuring they were ready for sale or distribution. Oaklands College staff and students participated enthusiastically, collaborating with Help 4 the Homeless volunteers to organise and support the entire initiative.

Vieri Wickes, commercial development manager at Oaklands College, expressed his delight at the outcome. He stated, "We are delighted with the fantastic support from our staff, students, and the wider community. Raising £2,500 shows what can be achieved when everyone comes together for a great cause."

Future Plans and Continued Support

Building on the success of the half-term event, Help 4 the Homeless will return to Oaklands College for the upcoming Lambing Weekend, scheduled for May 9–10. During this event, visitors with purchased tickets will have the chance to visit the pop-up shop once again, continuing to contribute to the charity's vital work in supporting homeless individuals.

The college has also received a heartfelt thank-you letter from the charity's trustee, acknowledging the immense value of the event for both the local community and the people they assist. This recognition underscores the positive impact of such collaborative efforts.
