A host of well-known personalities, led by Dame Judi Dench and comedian Mel Giedroyc, have recorded emotional video messages in support of Sobell House Hospice as the Oxfordshire charity celebrates its 50th anniversary.
The videos, released on social media to mark the official anniversary on May 25, have already amassed over 10,000 views. Alongside Dame Judi and Mel, the campaign features actor and West End star Paul Chahidi, TV presenters Suzie Fletcher and Matt Allwright, paint pioneer Annie Sloan, and renowned book illustrators Korky Paul and David Melling.
These celebrities have publicly endorsed the hospice with messages of support, urging others to rally behind the charity as part of a year-long series of events commemorating five decades of care for people across Oxfordshire.
Dame Judi Dench's Personal Tribute
Dame Judi Dench shared how she first encountered Sobell House Hospice when a lifelong friend was cared for there. She described how 'beautifully' her friend was looked after and the comfort the hospice provided during a difficult time, before offering a heartfelt thank you on behalf of 'her and all the other people you do that for'.
Mel Giedroyc's Fond Memories
Comedian and TV presenter Mel Giedroyc referred to the 'mighty Sobell House' before saying: 'We all thank you from the bottom of our hearts for supporting people through the toughest times with grace, dignity and humanity.' Mel also revealed a personal connection, explaining that her mother was once the gardener at Sobell House. She recalled fond memories of helping with the weeding and expressed hope that the hospice can continue its vital work for many years to come.
Community Celebration Event
Beth Marsh at Sobell House Hospice said: 'We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of so many well-known supporters who have taken the time to share messages for our 50th anniversary. Their support is helping us reach new audiences and raise awareness of the vital care Sobell House provides for local people and their loved ones.'
As part of the anniversary celebrations, a major community event will be held at Westgate Oxford on Saturday, June 13, bringing together supporters, staff, volunteers and local residents to celebrate 50 years of care.
