The organisers of the popular Bacup and Stacksteads Carnival are calling on the community to support a major fundraising quiz night this month. The event is crucial for financing the next carnival, which is scheduled for Sunday, June 28, 2026, and will feature a delightful Teddy Bear's Picnic theme for its procession.
Quiz Night Details and How to Take Part
The primary fundraising event will be held at the Rose ‘n’ Bowl in Stacksteads on Monday, January 26. Doors will open at 6pm, with the quiz itself commencing at 7pm. Admission is priced at £7.50 per person, which includes a supper option of either a meat or cheese pie; a gluten-free alternative will also be available.
Teams are limited to a maximum of four people, encouraging a friendly but competitive atmosphere. To secure a spot, interested participants are asked to email info@basco.org.uk.
Raffle Prizes and Community Support
In addition to the quiz, a raffle will be held to boost the fundraising total. ASDA's Community Champion, Laura Saxton, has already shown tremendous support by donating a selection of raffle prizes. The organising committee, BASCO (Bacup and Stacksteads Carnival Organisation), has expressed that further prize donations are always welcome to make the event a greater success.
BASCO Chairman and Park Organiser, Catherine Smyth, emphasised the importance of the evening: “This is our major fundraising event and we are grateful to everyone who comes along and supports the quiz.” She extended thanks to quizmaster Paddy Marriott and all who donate prizes, singling out the generous contribution from ASDA.
A Tradition of Carnival Fun
BASCO has been orchestrating the community carnival since 2010, and this annual quiz plays a pivotal role in gathering the necessary funds. The reigning champions are the Rossendale Radio team, who triumphed in the 2025 quiz. Their victory sets a high bar for this year's competitors, who will be quizzing for a good cause.
The funds raised will directly support the 2026 carnival, ensuring the continuation of a beloved local tradition that brings colour and celebration to the streets of Bacup and Stacksteads.
