As festive decorations begin appearing across Greater Manchester, residents can now plan for the environmentally responsible disposal of their Christmas trees while supporting vital local hospice services.
Charity Partnership Brings Festive Benefits
Moya Cole Hospice has announced its continued partnership with national charity Just Helping for the annual Christmas tree collection and recycling service. The initiative allows households across parts of Greater Manchester to have their real Christmas trees collected in exchange for a donation to support local charitable causes.
Georgia Vacher, Manchester Collection Lead for Just Helping, expressed enthusiasm for this year's campaign: "I'm so excited for this year's Manchester Treecycle Appeal! Every year, our amazing volunteers and supporters come together to make a real difference."
Record-Breaking Environmental Impact
The January 2025 Manchester collection achieved remarkable success, raising £117,000 for Greater Manchester charities. Volunteers collected an impressive 5,309 trees, all of which were chipped and repurposed for pathways and forest management at Wythenshawe Park.
Net proceeds from the scheme are distributed between several local organisations, including Moya Cole Hospice, Francis House Children's Hospice, Just Helping, and other community causes.
"The Manchester community never fails to show up with incredible generosity and spirit," Vacher added. "We're helping raise vital funds for these amazing hospices while giving Christmas trees a new, eco-friendly purpose in our parks."
How to Register Your Tree
Residents wishing to participate in the sustainable scheme can register at www.just-helping.org.uk/register-tree to arrange collection dates in the new year. The service involves volunteers collecting trees directly from homes, providing a convenient solution for post-festive disposal.
Gayle Shaw, corporate fundraiser at Moya Cole Hospice, highlighted the long-term impact: "We are so grateful to the community and Just Helping for their support. Over the last ten years, Just Helping has helped raise more than £370,000 for Moya Cole Hospice through the Christmas Tree collection scheme."
The hospice provides comprehensive care to patients with life-limiting illnesses through inpatient services, day therapy, and outpatient facilities at its sites in Heald Green, Stockport and Little Hulton, Salford. Additional community services include Hospice at Home care in Salford and Trafford, specialist palliative care teams, and a 24-hour telephone advice line.
With anticipation building for the 2026 campaign, organisers encourage residents to "get ahead of yourself and book a slot to have your Christmas tree collected right from your front door in the new year."
