Mortgage Manager Takes on London Marathon to Honor Grandfather and Support Hospice
Jade Wise, a mortgage product manager based in Essex, is embarking on an extraordinary journey to run the TCS London Marathon in memory of her beloved grandfather, Alan Wooldridge. The 26.2-mile race, scheduled for Sunday, April 26, 2026, will see Jade push her limits as part of #TeamFarleigh, raising vital funds for Farleigh Hospice.
Inspired by Compassionate Care During Difficult Times
Alan Wooldridge, aged 81, was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer and received end-of-life care from Farleigh Hospice. Jade witnessed firsthand the comfort, dignity, and peace the hospice provided, not only to her grandfather but also to her family during an incredibly challenging period. This experience has motivated Jade, who admits she is not a runner and typically "only runs baths," to step far beyond her comfort zone.
Jade shared heartfelt words about her motivation: "My grandad was my best mate and my absolute rock. He was one of the strongest men I’ve ever known, and losing him has been heart-breaking. Farleigh Hospice gave him comfort, dignity and peace, and they gave us the chance to keep laughing, hugging and making memories right until the end."
A Meaningful Tribute and Personal Challenge
The decision to run the marathon holds deep personal significance for Jade. Her grandfather fought valiantly to attend her wedding last year, determined to see his only granddaughter get married. This memory fuels her determination to honor his legacy through every step of the race.
Jade added: "I’m not a runner at all - I can barely run a bath - so taking on the London Marathon feels huge. But every step I take will be for my grandad, and for all the families who need the incredible care that Farleigh provides."
Community Support and Hospice Funding Needs
Kate Chisnall, Fundraising Office Co-ordinator at Farleigh Hospice, expressed gratitude for Jade's efforts: "We are so grateful to Jade for choosing to run the London Marathon as part of Team Farleigh, in memory of her grandad. Fundraisers like Jade make an enormous difference to the families we support, and her determination to take on such a challenge is a wonderful tribute to Alan."
Farleigh Hospice provides essential hospice care and support to individuals and families affected by life-limiting illnesses across mid Essex. With approximately 40 percent of its annual running costs funded by the local NHS, the hospice relies heavily on community generosity to cover the £21,271 required daily to deliver its services.
