The festive spirit is set to sweep through Stamford as the beloved Santa Fun Run returns for its 18th year on Sunday, December 7. Thousands of participants dressed as Santas and elves will gather at the stunning Burghley Park for a day dedicated to festive fun and vital fundraising.
A Festive Day for All
The event, organised by Stamford Striders in collaboration with The Rotary Club of Stamford St Martins, aims to raise crucial funds for Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice, alongside MindSpace Stamford. Delia Calder, 60, who leads the sponsorship team, emphasised the personal connection many have with the cause. "We're incredibly proud to give back through this event," she said. "Many of us have experienced first-hand the outstanding care provided by Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice and it's a cause that really resonates throughout the club and wider community."
The fun run is proudly inclusive, welcoming people of all ages and fitness levels. Three scenic routes are available: the one-mile Elves' Escape, the two-mile Reindeer Run, and the three-mile Santa Special. Calder is keen to point out that the event is open to everyone – "from pushchairs and wheelchairs to festive wheelbarrows." Participants are not required to complete the full distance, and everyone receives a Santa suit, a finisher's medal, and festive refreshments.
New Attractions and Festive Cheer
The day kicks off at 11am with music and a high-energy warm-up led by motivator Emma Vaughan, before being officially opened by local celebrity Colin Furze. New for 2025 is the Best Dressed Dog competition, judged by Wildwood Pets, who are donating a festive hamper for the winning canine.
The Race Village will be buzzing with activity, featuring an expanded selection of food and drink, including the much-anticipated arrival of a bacon butty van. A highlight for families will be a special appearance by the real Santa, who will be waiting in his sleigh to greet children and collect their Christmas wish lists. Every child who posts a letter will receive a personalised reply from the North Pole.
Planning and Participation
This community event, which attracts participants from Stamford, Peterborough, Rutland, Bourne, and Grantham, is the culmination of year-round effort. "We start planning in January," Delia Calder explained, highlighting the teamwork involved. "It's a real team effort... but so worth it."
Entry fees are set at £16 for adults and £9 for children aged five to 12, while children under four can participate for free. Tickets are limited to 1,700 participants and are sold on a first-come, first-served basis. No entries will be accepted on the day if the event sells out.
