Mid Essex Community Urged to Support Farleigh Hospice's 'Love Farleigh' Appeal

Farleigh Hospice is reaching out to individuals and organisations across mid Essex, encouraging them to demonstrate their affection for their local hospice by contributing to the charity's heartfelt 'Love Farleigh' appeal. This initiative aims to secure vital funding to sustain the hospice's essential services, which are provided entirely free of charge to those in need.

Comprehensive Care Services Across the Region

Farleigh Hospice delivers compassionate hospice care to adults living with life-limiting illnesses and their families throughout mid Essex, including areas such as Braintree, Burnham, Chelmsford, Halstead, Maldon, and Witham. At any given time, a dedicated team of doctors, nurses, counsellors, and therapists supports more than 500 people, offering care both in the comfort of their own homes and at the specialised Inpatient Unit located within the hospice.

In addition to medical care, the charity provides crucial bereavement information and support, helping children and adults navigate the challenging journey of grief. Despite all services being offered without cost, the rising number of local residents diagnosed with life-limiting illnesses has intensified the demand for Farleigh's specialist support. Consequently, the hospice now relies more than ever on the generosity of the community to fund its operations.

A Personal Story of Support and Gratitude

The appeal highlights the impact of donations through the touching story of Leslie and Janet Willsher. Janet took early retirement to care for her husband, Leslie, after he was diagnosed with prostate cancer that had metastasised to his bones. When she needed assistance, she contacted Farleigh Hospice, which organised personal care for Leslie at home and later provided end-of-life care at the hospice.

Thanks to this support, the family cherished additional time together, creating precious memories with Leslie. Following his passing, Janet and their daughters, Sarah and Claire, received bereavement support to help them cope with their loss. Janet expressed her gratitude, stating, "Without Farleigh Hospice, life would have been harder and more traumatic for us all. The care they gave my husband, Leslie, at home and at the Inpatient Unit was excellent. The hospice itself is a calm and beautiful place, and there was always a member of staff or a volunteer who we could talk to. We couldn't have asked for anything better and we couldn't be more grateful."

In a heartfelt gesture of thanks, the family now actively fundraises for Farleigh Hospice. They participated in the charity's Walk for Life event last year and plan to join again when it returns on Sunday, May 10.

How to Contribute to the 'Love Farleigh' Appeal

Individuals and organisations are encouraged to donate whatever they can to ensure Farleigh Hospice can continue providing the best possible care and support. Contributions will directly aid people like Leslie and Janet, enabling the hospice to maintain its vital services across mid Essex.
