The festive spirit has shone brightly in Torfaen, as the borough's annual Santa Appeal has delivered an overwhelming wave of generosity, ensuring hundreds of children will enjoy a magical Christmas.
Community Spirit Exceeds All Expectations
Now celebrating its 20th anniversary, the long-running appeal has once again surpassed all hopes. Thanks to the incredible kindness of local residents and businesses, more than 300 children and young people supported by council services will receive gifts in time for Christmas Day. These are youngsters who might otherwise have faced a bleak festive season.
Gifts and Essential Hampers for All Ages
The appeal collects donations specifically for children and families helped by Torfaen Council’s Children’s Services, the Torfaen Young People’s Support Service (TYPSS), and the Families First teams. This year, the campaign's reach extended beyond toys and gifts.
In a significant development, donations have also enabled the creation of 25 specially assembled hampers filled with food and essential home items. These will be complemented by a further 60 pre-made hampers, all destined for young people aged 15 and over who are living independently, providing crucial support during the holiday period.
Heartfelt Thanks from Council and Services
Councillor Richard Clark, Torfaen Council’s executive member for children, families and education, expressed profound gratitude. "I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all our local residents and businesses who have supported this year’s appeal so generously," he said. "Your kindness ensures that hundreds of children and young people will enjoy a brighter Christmas."
He also praised the network of community hubs that acted as donation points, stating, "This collective effort truly shows the strength of our community spirit."
Abigail Vaughan, team manager for children and family services, added her thanks on behalf of social workers and the recipients. "I'd like to thank the public for their incredible generosity," she said. "Your kindness brings joy and makes a real difference to families during a challenging time of year. We are truly grateful for your support in making Christmas special."
The success of the Santa Appeal stands as a powerful testament to the compassion and unity found within the Torfaen community, turning seasonal goodwill into tangible support for those who need it most.
