Volunteer Shares Heartfelt Journey with Moya Cole Hospice Fundraising Committee
Volunteer's Journey with Moya Cole Hospice Fundraising Group

Lynn Partridge, a dedicated volunteer at Moya Cole Hospice, has opened up about her personal journey of giving back after witnessing the compassionate care provided to her father and aunt. Motivated by the comfort, dignity, and kindness she experienced, Lynn joined the Heald Green Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help ensure other families could benefit from the same support.

Formation and Growth of the Committee

The Heald Green Volunteer Fundraising Committee was established in 2023, bringing together individuals who initially did not know each other. Over time, the group has flourished, with members forming strong friendships based on shared experiences. Many volunteers have had family members cared for by the hospice, creating a deep sense of camaraderie and mutual understanding.

Lynn expresses great enthusiasm for the group, noting that she looks forward to their meetings and values the friendships she has developed. The committee meets approximately once a month to plan activities, with the frequency increasing for larger events like fairs, which require more intensive organisation.

Fundraising Events and Achievements

The committee organises a variety of fundraising events, each with different levels of difficulty and time commitment. For instance, quiz nights, such as Quizmasters, are quicker to arrange but equally effective in raising funds compared to more labour-intensive fairs. This strategic approach allows the group to maximise their impact while balancing their limited free time, as most members are still employed.

One of Lynn's fondest memories is the first fair held in autumn 2023. Despite the challenges of it being their inaugural event and the hard work involved, she found it incredibly rewarding to see attendees enjoying themselves and contributing to the cause. To date, the committee has raised over £18,000 in less than three years, a significant sum that supports the hospice's vital services.
