Pennine Mencap, an Oldham charity supporting adults with learning disabilities and autism, is hosting its first open day to celebrate the completion of refurbishment work at its headquarters. The event marks the official relaunch of the Rhodes Bank Centre, a Victorian building that has been the charity's base for more than a decade.
Refurbished facilities unveiled
Recent improvements include upgraded activity rooms and a renewed frontage to the entire building. The organisation said it hopes the open day will raise awareness of its regular programme, which includes a full day service for people who need extra support.
The showcase, which is open to everyone, is scheduled for Thursday, September 3. Doors open at 11.30am with a short introductory talk from the team, followed by a choir workshop at noon led by activity coordinator Tom Morris.
Workshops and activities planned
After the choir session, guests can try the relaxed Creativity Club. A healthy lunch prepared by the in-house cook will be served at 1pm. The afternoon continues with a drama session at 2pm hosted by the Stage Right Performing Arts group, and the day concludes with a group music therapy workshop led by therapist Alan Wells.
