A friendly community group in North Yorkshire is inviting local residents to step outside and connect this summer with a brand-new programme of social activities. The seasonal calendar features a variety of gentle gatherings designed to help people make new friends and beat isolation.
Summer Lineup of Events
The summer lineup includes regular coffee afternoons, scenic group strolls, pub lunches, and relaxed games evenings running throughout July, August, and September 2026. Activities are specifically tailored to be welcoming and gentle, making them ideal for older residents or retirees looking to enjoy good company.
Growing Interest in Community Connection
The newly formed group has already seen a surge in interest from the local neighbourhood since launching earlier this year. Organisers are encouraging anyone who might be feeling lonely to come along to an upcoming session and experience the warm atmosphere.
Stacey Taylor, social organiser for Scarborough Oddfellows, said: "Summer is a wonderful time to get out and about, but we know that many people can still feel isolated. Our events are all about bringing people together through friendship, whether that's over a cup of tea, a leisurely walk, or lunch overlooking the coast. Everyone is made to feel welcome."
Building Community Pride
The volunteer team hopes the diverse schedule will give people a sense of community pride and a regular place to share a laugh. Attendance is open to adults of all ages, and newcomers can request a free information pack before attending their first session.
