Father-of-four banned for drink-driving in Wolverhampton

A father-of-four from Tipton has been disqualified from driving after being caught behind the wheel while more than twice the legal alcohol limit in Wolverhampton.

Dave Sazuze, 46, was spotted by police driving a silver Ford Fiesta along Craddock Street on August 8. Officers performed a U-turn and followed the vehicle before stopping the healthcare assistant, who works at a hospital.

More than double the legal limit

Dudley Magistrates’ Court heard that Sazuze had 89 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, against the legal limit of 35 microgrammes. He pleaded guilty to driving while above the alcohol level limit at a hearing on September 24.

The court was told that Sazuze, of Swann Walk, Tipton, had been under a “significant amount of stress” at home on the day of the offence.

Stress led to poor decision

His legal representative explained: “He waited for his wife to come back and asked to get away from it all. Unfortunately, he ended up going out drinking and driving.”

The representative added that since the incident, Sazuze “no longer drinks as much and is trying to get some help.” He also said Sazuze had shown “significant remorse” for his actions.

Fine and driving ban imposed

Magistrates fined Sazuze £450 and ordered him to pay a victim surcharge of £180 and £85 in court costs. He was also disqualified from driving for 20 months.

However, the ban could be reduced by 20 weeks if Sazuze completes a course by November 4 next year. The conviction leaves the father-of-four facing significant financial penalties and a lengthy period off the road.
